Walk through this checklist each spring: Check your basement or crawl space after the first heavy rain. Any water entry — even a damp wall — tells you where pressure is highest. Check all doors and windows for sticking that wasn't present last fall. Clay soil expansion in spring can accelerate settling that was slow over winter. Walk your foundation perimeter and look for new cracks or widening of existing ones.
